KINDNESS
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the power of simple kindness. Looking around at society at the moment, it’s amazing to see kindness in action - seeing neighbours look out for one another, to see whole communities coming together, to hear that over 600,000 people have volunteered to help the NHS in a time of crisis. It’s brilliant, isn’t it?
Jesus asks us to be carriers of kindness - a powerful key to opening the doors of people’s hearts. Proverbs 11:16 (NIRV) says, “A woman who has a kind heart gains respect”. That’s not about just bringing one-off gestures, but carrying a kindness that comes from the heart, that truly puts others first.
People may disagree with your beliefs, but they will never forget your kindness towards them. Think about it - you may have a bad memory and forget all sorts of things, but you don’t tend to forget those that have been gracious and kind to you!
Kindness is a key that unlocks people’s hearts. It was the powerful kindness of God that opened our own hearts towards Him (Romans 2:4). So, let’s model our lives in the same way. True kindness towards others builds up trust and gives us opportunities to share our lives with them. It may come at a cost and place demands on us, even when we don’t feel like it, but it’s so worth it.
Let’s believe today for doors to be opened as we reflect the kindness of our God in the world around us.
