LIFE IS A ROLLERCOASTER

There is no denying that life as some ups and downs for all of us, especially at this time. You know–the different seasons we go through, some where all seems great and then others when you feel completely out of control and you are not sure which way is up. Suddenly Ronan Keating seems to have it all right–life is a rollercoaster!

At the start of most rollercoasters there is the climb, where you seem to be going uphill for what feels like ages. Then there is the first exhilarating, head-spinning drop. Then the second, third and fourth drops, and the spins, and the corkscrews and the loops! Some rollercoasters, especially the older ones, shake you around quite a lot.

You get shaken, rattled, and a bit battered. Finally, there are some sections where the brakes are suddenly applied, and you wonder if you are about to lose your glasses! Then finally you reach the end of the ride.

So, what does this have to do with life? There are actually quite a few parallels with our everyday lives.

I am sure we can all think of times when it all feels like an uphill battle – where all you seem to be doing is trudging uphill all the time with no end in sight. Then there are times when you like life is careering out of control, where there seems to be no end to the free fall that you are in.

There are seasons of life where it seems to be a non-stop barrage of high-speed ups and downs, twists and turns, perhaps even life changing loops and twirls? You may feel like you are being jolted from side to side, bumped, jostled. You feel so shaken you start to think you want to get off the ride.

How about when you come to a sudden stop–when the breaks are jammed on hard and you are pulled against your harness. All the momentum you had is gone, and you are not really sure how (or even if) you will ever get going again.

There are so many different seasons in life, and what some people thrive on and love, others will find terrifying. The best news (and this is true for rollercoasters as well) is that there is always someone in control. No matter how out of control the ride may feel, or how wild and crazy the ride is, there is always a person monitoring the whole thing, the person in the control room watching over things and making sure you reach the end of the ride.

Rest assured that whatever season you are going through, the ultimate controller is watching and ensuring that you are not pushed too far, that you are not jolted too much. God is in control so trust Him, the ride may be rough, but you will come through – He promises that!

John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
